Today I...

1.11.2012

Worked 10 hours
Went grocery shopping
Made a double batch of chicken enchiladas
And cleaned the kitchen

All while wearing 3" heels.

Take that June Cleaver...
take THAT!

It's how us modern women roll.

Getting Organized in 2012

1.05.2012

One of my goals for 2012
is to get better organized at home.

The first step in this effort
was to organize my make up and bathroom counter.
The ladies will understand this.

I got these containers at the Container Store.
The clear makes it easier to see what is in each tray,
and now I don't have to dig through a make up bag each morning
to find the things I need.
Not to mention my bathroom looks tre chic!

Painting

12.30.2011

I took this week off from work
to enjoy some relaxation,
but instead of relaxing I decided
to paint two rooms in the house;
our bedroom and office.

Let me just start off by saying,
when we bought this house it was like
a kindergarten classroom experiment.
The downstairs was sea foam green and purple
and the upstairs was sunshine yellow and sky blue.
(I do not know what they were thinking)
((seriously))

And it wasn't just the walls;
the trim and ceilings were these colors.
The only room with a white ceiling
was our bedroom.
And thank goodness,
because those are vaulted ceilings!

Husband painting our bedroom,
which went from dusty rose to dark gray.

new bedroom color

New office paint color in progress:
light gray with white trim.
Note the old sea foam green on the crawl space door.
(I still have to paint that)

painting supplies
(king size hersey's bar)

This is picture is only relevant
because I found this while looking for frog tape.
Did you know they make pink duck tape!?
(yes, I bought some)
((and only because it's pink))

After we finish painting,
I'm saving up for new curtains and light fixtures!

Fairy Roses

12.24.2011

To celebrate my first day of vacation,
I bought myself flowers.

I love the autumn feel
of these orange fairy roses.

And I was able to make three bouquets
out of one bundle.

This one is my favorite.
I placed it on my night stand
so I can wake up tomorrow to roses.

The joys of vacation.

Night Light

11.15.2011

I've made a habit of going to bed
extremely early these past few weeks.
As in 8:30 PM.

Since Husband prefers to go to bed later,
I've been leaving a 'night light' on for him.
The candle light puts out just enough light
that Husband won't trip over things on his way to bed,
but isn't so bright that I can't fall asleep waiting for him.

Happiness.

I Should Have Listened to my Father

11.04.2011

Once upon a time,
a girl got her first college apartment.
She didn't have anything for her kitchen,
so her dad and her went shopping for supplies.
She got a lot of hand-me-down kitchen knives,
but she bought one,
really nice,
Henckel knife.

"Be careful,"
her father told her.
"This knife is special.
You should take good care of it,
and always be sure to hand wash it."

The girl rolled her eyes.
She was almost in her twenties now.
I real independent woman.
She didn't need advice.
So he put the knife through the dish washer.
Over, and over again.

The knife didn't make it....

And from that day forth,
the girl started to hand wash her knives.

Bleach + Silk = Bad News

10.28.2011

Hey boys and girls!
Did you know
you aren't supposed to bleach silk?

Okay, so I did read the label,
and it said not to...
but I assumed that meant it was because
it would wear out your fabric
(blah blah blah)
so I thought
"Well, I'll just do it this once
to make it really bright and fresh"

Nope, turns out that
bleaching your silk shirt
will turn it YELLOW

But the joke's on you bleach,
because I actually like this shirt better in cream.
It was too boring in white.
So HAH!

I win.
